PILOT EVENTS DIARY
SEPTEMBER 2015

Our regular Thursday pub-nights in September were at pubs in north
St Albans, Tyttenhanger and London Colney, and this month our last Thursday
pub-night was also in north St Albans, with an optional meal, instead of at the
usual pub in Chiswell Green. We also had two Friday night get-togethers at St Albans pubs, and also a Saturday evening meal. As usual
there was a first Tuesday lunch in north St Albans, and our regular visits to the Monday quiz
night in the popular Hatfield Road pub.

Dancers went to Edgware to dance to the music of Mr
Wonderful. Film and theatre included “The Rocky Horror Show”, “How to Change
the World” and “A Walk in the Park” at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, and
“Arsenic and Old Lace” at the Barn Theatre, Welwyn Garden City.

Highlights were the Heritage Open Day visit to the
walled garden at Luton Hoo, a ten-pin bowling evening at Garston, and a visit
to the “Cosmonauts” exhibition at the science museum.

Events for October will include “The Diana Ross
Show” in Letchworth; “The Mousetrap” in St Albans; a Comedy Club evening in St Albans; a Brahms and Schumann concert at the University of Herts in Hatfield; and a trip to the Olympic site. In November there will
be a trip to The Magic Circle in London and a day at Ascot races. In December there will be visits to the “Little Match Girl”
ballet at Sadlers Wells, and to “Wonderland” at the National Theatre. In
January there will be another trip to Sadlers Wells to see “Sleeping Beauty”.

Booking will take place in October for our club
Christmas lunch in Aldenham, and there may still be a few places left for our evening
Christmas party, with meal and dancing, at a hotel in St Albans.

Some new members have joined us recently – five men
and five women. If you are interested in possibly joining our club, please
contact our new members’ co-ordinator through the box on the main page of this website.

AUGUST EVENTS DIARY

PILOT CLUB DIARY OF
EVENTS AUGUST 2015

Our regular events
continued through August. There was the weekly Monday quiz at a pub on the Hatfield Road; the first Tuesday lunch in St Albans; and Thursday pub-nights, this month in St Albans, Sleapshyde and Chiswell Green. At two of these we
had a meal first, and there was also a lunch at a pub in Hemel Hempstead. A new venture was a Friday night get-together at
a St Albans pub, for our new members as well as long-standing
ones.

Dancers attended a masked
ball at the usual Edgware dance-club. Walkers went to Ashridge twice, once for
a stroll and once for a 5-mile Sunday walk; for another Sunday morning walk in Potten
End; and for a third Sunday walk in Heartwood Forest, Sandridge. Members also joined a guided walk/talk about trees in Sherrards
Park Wood, Welwyn Garden City. Some members went to “Fit-steps” exercise in Hatfield.

Other events we went to
were a pop-up auction in Welwyn village, and a talk about the tracery in the
windows of St Albans abbey. Some members went to Cambridge, visiting the museum and some colleges. This month
our film outing was to “Mr Holmes” at St Albans Arena.

At our walks and other
events we also had opportunities to chat to friends old and new over a pub drink
or tea/coffee and cake.

A summer highlight was the
annual party in a member’s garden in Garston, which was lucky to have dry
weather.

We are now planning some
Christmas events, including a visit to “Wonderland” at the National Theatre, a
special Pilot Club lunch in Aldenham, and a Christmas party with meal and music
at a hotel in St Albans. So do join our club soon if you want to book in
for these events.

September highlights will
be Heritage Open Day events in Hertford and Luton Hoo, and ten-pin bowling at Garston.

JULY EVENTS DIARY

PILOT EVENTS DIARY JULY
2015

In July our regular Thursday pub-nights were at
pubs in central St Albans, Bricketwood, Redbourn and Tyttenhanger; and in South St Albans as usual for the last Thursday. At two of the
pub-nights we had a meal beforehand. Members also met up as usual to go to the
weekly Monday night quiz at a pub on the Hatfield road, St Albans; and for our first Tuesday lunch at another St Albans pub. We went to the steak night at a St Albans pub, and had a lavish afternoon tea at a pub in
London Colney.

Our Summer Event this year was a music quiz and
some dancing, with a ploughman’s supper, strawberries and cream, and Pimms. For
this event we booked a hall in Tyttenhanger.

Our film and theatre events were “Far From the
Madding Crowd” at St Albans Arena; “The Songbook of Judy Garland” at Watford
Colosseum; the ballet “Carmen” at Sadlers Wells; and the play “John Bull’s
Other Island” in the lovely garden at Shaw’s Corner, Ayot St Lawrence, with a picnic beforehand.

Our dancers went to the monthly dance in Edgware.
Our Bridge Club, Snooker club, and Supper Club continued, and there was a new
venture – a gardening club, to discuss gardening matters in members’ homes.

We went out and about enjoying the summer days – to
a Village Carnival in Eaton Bray in Bedfordshire, and to an Open Gardens Day in
Braughing, Herts, complete with special Braughing sausages. We enjoyed watching
the white water rafting at Lee Valley Centre at Waltham Cross – perhaps the
bravest of us might return to have a go! Some members joined a coach-trip to Eastbourne, and some went to the “50-Plus Show” at London’s Olympia.

So if you think you would have enjoyed some of
these events, or you’d like to have company for something you want to put in
our programme, please contact our New Members’ Co-ordinator by using the box on
the home-page of this website.

Coming up in August – our annual Pot-Luck party in
a member’s garden in Watford, and trips to the King’s Cross area of London and to Cambridge.

JUNE EVENTS DIARY

Events Posted on Fri, July 03, 2015 19:17:01

PILOT CLUB DIARY OF
JUNE 2015 EVENTS

Our regular pub-nights are
on Thursday evenings. The last Thursday is always at the same pub in South St Albans, and the other pub-nights are at various pubs,
some with an optional meal beforehand.

Other regular events are
the First Tuesday lunch, at a pub in North St Albans,
and the Monday night quiz at a pub on Hatfield Road, St
Albans.

A popular new venture was
when some Pilot members joined a fitness dance class in Hatfield on Wednesday
mornings. Pilot dancers, as usual, went to a monthly Saturday evening dance
event in Edgware. Walkers went on a Sunday morning walk in Heartwood Forest, near Sandridge, followed by a visit to a nearby pub.

June’s film and theatre
events were “Suite Francaise” at St Albans Arena, David Mamet’s “The Shawl” and “Duck Variations” at the Abbey Theatre, St Albans, and “The Thrill of Love” at
the Barn Theatre, Welwyn Garden City.

Gardens were in Summer
bloom, so members visited three Open Gardens events on Sundays – one in Shenley; one in Ayot St Lawrence,
including the annual art exhibition in the church; and one in the Kensington
and Notting Hill area of London, including the roof-top garden of a former
department store.

A highlight of June was
the annual Sunday morning French Breakfast, with delicious food, and with a
view of a member’s lovely garden this year, instead of sitting in it, because
it was raining a little.

So why not contact the
Pilot New Members’ Co-ordinator, to find out what we will be doing in July? The
contact is via the box on our website. Highlights in July will include a visit to the
White Water Centre at Waltham Cross, and Pilot Club’s Summer event, with a
music quiz, supper and dancing.
