PILOT CLUB DIARY OF EVENTS JULY 2016
And COMING EVENTS FOR AUGUST 2016
In July we had pub nights at The Green Dragon in
London Colney, The Plough at Tyttenhanger, The Paper Mill at Apsley, and The
King William IV in St
Albans. Members joined
the weekly Monday night quiz at the pub on the Hatfield Road, and there was our regular first Tuesday lunch in St Albans. There was also a Sunday lunch at the Peahen in St Albans, and another lunch at the Speckled Hen in St Albans.
Evenings out included “Hi-de-Hi” at Park Street, Big Band Jazz at The Maltings St Albans, the
music festival in St Michael’s St
Albans, and a Pilot Club
summer event, with food, games and sing-along, in the hall at Tyttenhanger.
Days out included a visit to the St Albans Organ
Theatre for a demonstration of the self-playing instruments; a visit to the
“Sicily: Culture and Conquest” exhibition at the British Museum; a visit to the
Classic Cars and Cycles show on Harpenden Common, followed by a meal at The
Skew Bridge; and a walk around the Hampstead Town Trail, with a picnic on the
heath. There was a butterfly walk in Bricket Wood. A group of members enjoyed a
seaside day out in Whitstable, travelling by the Javelin train from St Pancras.
Coming Up in August
A special August pub night will be at the Six Bells
in St Albans, with a beer-tasting festival and barbecue. Other pub nights will
be at the Chequers, Redbourn, with an optional meal beforehand; at the Rose and
Crown, Sandridge; and at the William IV, St Albans. There will also be a Friday night get-together
for members old and new at the Speckled Hen on the Hatfield Road. Members will
also join the regular Monday night pub quiz.
The first Tuesday lunch will be at a pub in St Albans.
Members wanting to keep fit will join the Zumba
Gold class in Hatfield, and walkers will go on a 4-5 mile walk from Redbourn.
Dancers will go to the dance-club at Edgware.
Days out will include a short walk to the Festival Garden at Ayletts Nursery; a visit to Bletchley Park war-time code-breaking centre; and a trip to Hatfield House, with its
garden and park. There will also be a plant-swap and tea in a member’s garden.
