PILOT CLUB DIARY OF EVENTS JUNE 2016


Pub nights in June were at The Speckled Hen on the
Hatfield/St Albans road, The Old Bell in Harpenden, The Garibaldi in St Albans, and the King William IV in St Albans. There was the usual pub quiz every Monday at our popular
pub on the Hatfield road and the first Tuesday lunch was at the King William IV
in St Albans. There was a de luxe fish and chips meal at a
restaurant in Harpenden.

Dancers went to the dance club in Edgware. Walkers
joined the Health Walk In Heartwood Forest.

Day-trips out included a visit to the Steam &
Country Show at Oaklands College, to the V&A to see the “Botticelli Re-imagined” exhibition, and
to a garden open day in St
Albans.

Evening entertainment included “The Elvis Years”
and “The Bee Gees Story” at the Arena in St Albans, and a concert of songs from many eras in St John’s Church Welwyn Garden City. Films included a matinee of “Eddie the Eagle” at the Arena,
after lunch at the Waterend Barn. Evening films at Campus West were “Love and Friendship”
and “Race”. There was also a film evening at a member’s home, and a games
evening at another member’s home.

Coming up in July

Coming up in July we have pub nights at The Green
Dragon in London Colney, The Plough at Tyttenhanger, The Paper Mill at Apsley,
and The King William IV in St
Albans. Members will join
the weekly Monday night quiz at the pub on the Hatfield Road, and there will be our regular first Tuesday lunch
in St Albans. There will also be a Sunday lunch at the Peahen
in St Albans, and another lunch at the Speckled Hen in St Albans.

Evenings out will include “Hi-de-Hi” at Park
Street, Big Band Jazz at The Maltings St Albans, the music festival in St
Michael’s St Albans, and a Pilot Club summer event, with food, games and
sing-along, in the hall at Tyttenhanger.

Days out will include a visit to the St Albans
Organ Theatre for a demonstration of the self-playing instruments; a visit to
the “Sicily: Culture and Conquest” exhibition at the British Museum; a guided London
Walk in Little Venice; a visit the Classic Cars and Cycles show on Harpenden
Common, followed by a meal at The Skew Bridge; and a walk around the Hampstead
Town Trail, with a picnic on the heath.
