PILOT CLUB DIARY OF
EVENTS AUGUST 2015

Our regular events
continued through August. There was the weekly Monday quiz at a pub on the Hatfield Road; the first Tuesday lunch in St Albans; and Thursday pub-nights, this month in St Albans, Sleapshyde and Chiswell Green. At two of these we
had a meal first, and there was also a lunch at a pub in Hemel Hempstead. A new venture was a Friday night get-together at
a St Albans pub, for our new members as well as long-standing
ones.

Dancers attended a masked
ball at the usual Edgware dance-club. Walkers went to Ashridge twice, once for
a stroll and once for a 5-mile Sunday walk; for another Sunday morning walk in Potten
End; and for a third Sunday walk in Heartwood Forest, Sandridge. Members also joined a guided walk/talk about trees in Sherrards
Park Wood, Welwyn Garden City. Some members went to “Fit-steps” exercise in Hatfield.

Other events we went to
were a pop-up auction in Welwyn village, and a talk about the tracery in the
windows of St Albans abbey. Some members went to Cambridge, visiting the museum and some colleges. This month
our film outing was to “Mr Holmes” at St Albans Arena.

At our walks and other
events we also had opportunities to chat to friends old and new over a pub drink
or tea/coffee and cake.

A summer highlight was the
annual party in a member’s garden in Garston, which was lucky to have dry
weather.

We are now planning some
Christmas events, including a visit to “Wonderland” at the National Theatre, a
special Pilot Club lunch in Aldenham, and a Christmas party with meal and music
at a hotel in St Albans. So do join our club soon if you want to book in
for these events.

September highlights will
be Heritage Open Day events in Hertford and Luton Hoo, and ten-pin bowling at Garston.
